Medieval Romance Monday – Champion of the Heart by Laurel O’Donnell

A medieval romance book. Champion of the Heart by Laurel O'DonnellOur featured medieval romance novel for this week’s Medieval Romance Monday is Champion of the Heart by medieval romance author Laurel O’Donnell.

Author Laurel O’Donnell reveals how the story came about:

At this point in my writing career, the paranormal was becoming increasingly prominent in literature and in movies.  I was intrigued by hauntings and in particular haunted castles.  I wondered why someone in the past wouldn’t use a haunted castle as a cover.  In the medieval ages, people were terrified of the unknown and very superstitious.  This is the backdrop for Champion of the Heart.  I hope you enjoy this story!

Medieval Romance Monday – The Angel and the Prince by Laurel O’Donnell

A medieval romance book. The Angel and the Prince by Laurel O'DonnellOur featured medieval romance novel for this week’s Medieval Romance Monday is The Angel and the Prince by medieval romance author Laurel O’Donnell.

Author Laurel O’Donnell gives us this tidbit of information on the history of her first medieval romance novel.

The Angel and The Prince was the first romance novel that I wrote and it was the first novel that was published.  I will always have a special place in my heart for Ryen and Bryce.  This is an epic tale that takes place during the 100 Years War between England and France.  The hero and heroine have to overcome warring countries and kings, not to mention their own emotions and families.  I always enjoyed the fact that Ryen was a knight, the commander of a French army.  In those days that was a rarity.  I hope you enjoy The Angel and The Prince as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Medieval Romance Monday – Highlander by Cathleen Ross

We’re excited to announce a new medieval romance book arrival to Medieval Romances for our new feature we are calling Medieval Romance Monday!

Highlander by Cathleen Ross

Author Cathleen Ross gave us this interesting insight into this medieval romance novel’s creation:

I was on holiday in Aspen and had this dream that a man came to me. In the dream he told me that he was Scottish and his name was James. He had been dispossessed of his land and he’d joined forces with others to fight to get it back. The odd thing is when I woke up he was still talking to me. By the time I’d finished talking to him, I had the whole story in my head and wrote it over the next three days. I also did internet research to try and discover if and when this event happened in Scotland. I discovered, ‘The Black Douglas’, whose first name was James had joined forces with Robert the Bruce and fought alongside him his whole life helping establish Robert of the king of Scotland. I set my story in 1308. To set up a strong conflict i had my heroine’s family fighting for John Balliol’s cause against Robert the Bruce’s.

I knew I had to write his story, but being a romance writer, I wanted to make it romantic so I invented my heroine, Lady Isobel McLaird who is married off to James.
